Kim Kardashian early delivery may have been due to preeclampsia health scare: report

Kim Kardashian's delivery room drama may have been due to a health scare rather than a reality-show stunt. According to People magazine, Kardashian, 32, may have been suffering from preeclampsia, a condition marked by chronic high blood pressure, which led to her early delivery.

The "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star was admitted to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on June 14 due to complications with her pregnancy, giving birth the next day with boyfriend Kanye West, 35, at her side.Kardashian was able to naturally deliver a still-unnamed daughter in her 37th week of pregnancy, though the situation could have been very serious, experts say. "The condition can cause complications for other organs," said Dr. Natalie K. Stevens of Upper East Side Women's Health, who is unaffiliated with Kardashian.
"Women could have headaches, abdominal pain, issues with vision, among other things."
Another notable symptom of preeclampsia is swelling — and recently the reality star has tweeted several photos of her "pregnancy lips" and swollen feet throughout the latter stages of her pregnancy.

"To treat it means we may have to deliver the baby early," Stevens added.

Earlier, E! News sources said the baby weighed in at "under five pounds," noting the premature birth. The magazine reports that the baby is incubated to regulate her body temperature.
Elated parents Kardashian and West have been at the hospital since Sunday, spending time with their new baby, and surrounded by friends and family.

"She's already smiling," one close Kardashian friend tells People, of the baby. "She's the prettiest, tiniest thing with a full head of straight, dark hair, a cute little nose and Kim's lips."
"I cannot even begin to describe the miracle that is now a part of our family," sister Khloe Kardashian-Odom, 28, wrote on Twitter on Monday.

"Mommy/baby are healthy & resting. We appreciate all of the love."
New dad West may also be basking in all the love. According to People, the "Good Life" rapper's next move might be one down the aisle with Kardashian.

"Can't believe it," the starlet wrote about being a mom in a brief e-mail to Ryan Seacrest, who then read it aloud on his radio show Tuesday. "It's so crazy!"
